Top Ten Tuesday:
Titles I hope to read this winter...and an update on how I did on my similar list for Fall.
2. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. A book club selection. This one I need to have read by our meeting in February. Can you believe I haven't read this book, yet?
3-5. American Street by Ibi Zoboi; Dreamland Burning by Jennifer Latham; and Release by Patrick Ness. These are the last three books on the Bethel SD Mock Printz list that I haven't read yet. I have until Feb. 7th to finish all three.
6. Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks. This is a book club selection for March.
7. Far From the Tree by Robin Benway. This is the National Book Award winning title this year for Young People's Literature. I've heard wonderful things about it.
8. The Librarian of Auschwitz by Antonio Iture, because, um, isn't it obvious?
9-10. The Atomic Weight of Love by Elizabeth J. Church; and Sing, Unburied, Sing by Jesmyn Ward.
These are two titles I will be suggesting we read in my other book club. I've heard so much about The Atomic Weight of Love, and Sing, Unburied, Sing is the National Book Award winner for fiction. If selected I may have to read one of these titles by the end of January.
Update: How did I do on TBR list from the Fall?
I really liked Release, although nothing has quite done for me what Chaos Walking did. Neverwhere is another one I found good but not the author's best. Geraldine Brooks has been kind of hit-or-miss for me. I really want to read Dreamland Burning, You Bring the Distant Near, and American Street. I hadn't heard of Far From the Tree, and barely have heard of Sing, Unburied, Sing and The Librarian of Auschwitz. GREAT list, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI am a Chaos Walking fan, too, and haven't liked anything I've read by Ness as much as I liked that series.
DeleteI read Neverwhere earlier this year and, even though the writing style is completely out of my comfort zone, I still enjoyed it! Pretty sure I bought more of Gaiman's books after that but.. Haven't gotten to those yet, haha.
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't get to read They Both Die At The End! It's such an emotional read! I promised myself not to cry but I ended up crying like no tomorrow.

I love the Gaiman books The Ocean at the End of the Lane and The Anansi Boys. I also enjoyed his quirky little book MirrorMask.

I've heard lots of things about Neil Gaiman, but never have I read any of his books. I do have Far from the Tree on my bookshelf, so at some point I will have to read that one!

I actually am not giving up on my Fall TBR list. I have Bus 57 at the library awaiting my pickup. The Borne book still intrigues me and I am determined to read Wild Beauty.

DeleteI love Patrick Ness` writing, but I still have to pick up Release. It sounds pretty interesting, but I`ve been in more of a fantasy mood lately.

I enjoyed Neverwhere, but it's a quirky book just like his other ones. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight in the parallel worlds. I also liked American Street-the magical realism element surprised me in that one as I was not expecting it. I did enjoy Long Way Down and The Both Died at the End. I still need to get to Far from the Tree, a coworker read, loved it, and could not stop gushing about it. I'm still trying to catch up to my Netgalley reads and all the arcs I got from ALA. SO many books!

Quite a list you have here, a lot of interesting titles. I am intrigued by The Librarian of Auschwitz. I used to read a lot about WWII, both fiction and non-fiction. Then I had a baby and I could not endure reading about anymore of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their supporters. I will have to think about this one for a good long while and perhaps give it a try. Thanks!
